Help us Raise Funds for a Vault Toilet at 400W Eagle Station

Wooden Bear is located at 21 W North St, Greenfield, IN 46140
The 400 W Eagle Station trailhead is very busy. The parking lot is frequently full. Many people come from 10 miles or farther, coming from Irvington, the Cultural Trail, and the Indy Zoo. People are walking, riding bikes, and enjoying the outdoor classroom.
The single port pot is clean and available but a vault toilet is needed at this spot. A recent trail users just reported the need to use the port a pot and this single port pot was the only one in a location 3 miles both directions. It is very appreciative.
School and youth groups are visiting this site and need this resource. The Eagle Station hosts a variety of enviromental and life science activities for all ages. Check our this FREE public site at https://pennsytrails.org/400-west-eagle-station/ with learning objectives already tested by educators and youth at https://pennsytrails.org/classroom-resources/

A vault toilet will provide add to this comfort station. A vault toilet is a waterless toilet seen in public areas. The best advantage is a reduction in the amount of water used and has very little environmental pollution. They also use the smallest amount of energy compared to flushing toilets.
These were created by the U.S. Forest Service to reduce dependence on American standard toilets after the Americans with Disabilities Act from 1990. This adds to our accessible site at the 400W Eagle Station trailhead.
The odor, made of ammonia and hydrogen sulphide, is converted to odorless nitrogen gas with the addition of an organic filler to the waste, and released into the vent. Activated carbon can also be added to the waste to remove the odor from the toilet fumes.
A vault toliet can also be a storm shelter. The structure is sturdy and anchored. Being on the trail in a storm can be a problem. Trail users can be protected by strong winds and rain.

This port-a-pot situation is a real hoot! A single pot for a 6-mile radius? Talk about a hot seat if you need relief! Imagine the lines, the anticipation. Its a wonder anyone gets out to enjoy the trail at all! Though I appreciate the vault toilet upgrade – odor conversion and storm shelter? Genius! Turning ammonia and hydrogen sulfide into *nitrogen gas*? Now thats chemistry for the real world! Lets hope the upcoming Pennsy FUND Night raises enough to get those vaults popping! No, I’m not a Human
